XBOX Accessible Packaging — 3D Product Film

Unboxing a new console should be exciting for every player. For people with limited mobility or dexterity, though, tight seals, cramped inserts and small details can make it frustrating before the first game even starts. For the latest XBOX console, the packaging design team at Microsoft built accessibility into the box from the very start: easy-open pull tabs, large multi-function loops, ample cavity space and multiple ways to lift the console and controller out. These are small, thoughtful details that consider how different people interact with packaging.

Together with the agency 100Percent, I created a highlight film that brings these details to life. The film tells its story through light: a glowing green line traces the box, finds each feature and guides the viewer step by step through the unboxing, from the sealed box to the console standing in the spotlight. Clean callouts name each detail, so the film works as a brand piece and also explains clearly how the packaging works.

I was responsible for the complete 3D production: modeling and rigging the packaging so every flap, tab and loop folds and opens convincingly, animation, shading of cardboard, print and plastic surfaces, lighting and rendering. The look combines a dark, cinematic setting with the signature XBOX green, using macro close-ups, shallow depth of field and precise light accents to make a cardboard box feel premium without losing the honest, tactile character of the material.

It was a real pleasure to be part of a project that makes gaming a little more inclusive, right from the moment the box arrives.
